Adapters
Adapters can be designed and manufactured by Michigan Scientific, or we can provide guidance for customer manufacturing at no cost. Lightweight rim adapters are machined from aluminum forgings while standard rims are modified, welded, production rims. Lightweight hub adapters are machined from 6A1-4V Titanium, which greatly reduced added weight to the wheel. Standard adapters are high strength stainless steel.
Two piece rim adapters are made from a manufactured wheel barrel combined with a MSC manufactured adapter flange that mates directly with all MSC 12.8 transducers. Rim diameters range from 17 inches to 21 inches, and are available in many widths.
WFT Slip Ring Assemblies
The SR20AW/E512/AX LS7 and SR20AW/E512/AX7 Slip Ring Assemblies were designed specifically to be used with these transducers. These slip ring assemblies provide a means to transmit the rotating electrical signals from the wheel, to the stationary DAQ.
Assembly Products
The CT3 also has easy to initiate Zero, Shunt Calibration, and Zero Angle features which makes WFT set-up simple and quick.
Simulator Accessories
The simulation package has three components; the simulation mass, simulation adapter, and simulator cable. The mass is used to replace a WFT system in a simulator when the loads do not need to be measured. It has the same mass and stiffness as the complete WFT system. The simulation adapter is an adapter plate that is to be used to mount the simulator. The simulator cable then plugs directly into an amplifier, without a slip ring assembly.
Calibration
We have spent years perfecting our unique, patented transducer calibration machine, the TCAT. A calibration compares the electrical output of a transducer to the applied loads. The TCAT can calibrate all MSC multi-axis load cells, Wheel Force Transducers, and Wheel Torque Transducers. The TCAT applies loads with linear actuators and measures the load through the transducer via reaction links. It applies three forces and three moments and calibrates through each transducer’s unique electronics package. In addition to the TCAT, MSC has a large calibration that uses hydraulic arms to apply forces and moments; up to 100,000 lbs.
The Michigan Scientific transducer calibration process complies with ISO 9001:2015 and ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements and all reference measurement equipment is traceable to National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). It is recommended that customers send in their transducers after one year of use, and then every two years after that. This is an easy way to ensure that the transducer is functioning properly and has not incurred any damage during use.
With the development of the patented transducer calibration machine, calibration time has significantly decreased, allowing for a faster turnaround and return to customer. There are multiple locations throughout the globe to get a Michigan Scientific transducer calibrated. The calibration process is now also automated, which allows our highly skilled technicians to focus on transducer design and manufacturing improvements.
